“Our Flexible Summer” is set to expand from a 21-entity pilot in 2024 to all government departments across Dubai. Running from July 1 to September 12, 2025, public sector employees will follow one of two adjusted schedules:

Option A: Monday–Thursday, 8 hours each, with Friday off.

Option B: Monday–Thursday, 7 hours each, plus a half-day (4.5 hours) on Friday.

The decision follows overwhelmingly positive results from the 2024 trial—98% employee satisfaction, with improved morale and maintained/increased productivity.

DGHR Director‑General Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi emphasized that the initiative reflects Dubai’s push for a modern, employee-first public service aimed at enhancing well-being and institutional efficiency.

This move also aligns with the UAE’s broader summer measures (like the midday work ban) and supports global trends toward flexible work arrangements in countries such as Japan, the UK, Australia, Canada, Iceland, and the US.
